Introduction

New to hackathons or game development? That's fine. You don't need years of experience to get started. Choose a manageable idea, focus on one core gameplay mechanic, and build from there.

Tools and Technologies

Use any programming language, game engine, or development platform appropriate for your project. Here are a few places to start:

  • Scratch: Beginner-friendly visual programming for interactive games.

  • Python with Pygame: A good option for simple 2D games.

  • Godot: An open-source engine for 2D and 3D game development.

  • Unity: A game engine for more advanced interactive experiences.

  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: Useful for games that run in a web browser.

Inspiration

Looking for ideas? You could create a game that teaches players to spot misinformation, challenges them to reduce waste, explores barriers faced by people with disabilities, helps players respond to cyberbullying, or makes financial literacy more engaging.

These are only examples. We want to see your perspective, your interests, and your interpretation of social good.

Final Reminders

Before you submit, double-check that you have included:

  • Your source code or repository link

  • A screen recording demonstrating your game

  • A 3–4 sentence project description explaining your game and its social impact

Test your game, verify that your links work, and submit everything through Devpost before the deadline. Most importantly, make sure your game gives players a reason to care about the problem you're tackling
